Kitchen Assistant (part-time)

The Job

Our Kitchen Assistants work in the Sea Cider Kitchen & Deli preparing food, washing dishes, and keeping our Deli stocked!  For our part-time Kitchen Assistant, shifts are generally three to four hours in length. We are looking for someone who could work after school, for example, until 6:30 pm, about three days a week. The total hourly target compensation is $24 per hour, which includes a base wage of $17.00 per hour + a share of the tips pool + 4% vacation pay. Training will be provided in food preparation, plating, dishwashing, bussing, kitchen cleaning & sanitation, and of course, cider!  Other benefits include:

About You

You are positive, hard working and conscientious with a desire to work in a small “two-person” commercial kitchen for a farm-based Ciderhouse. In addition, you have:

  • Education: Serving It Right – an asset; Foodsafe Level 1 – required before employment.
  • Vocational experience in a commercial kitchen, restaurant or deli – preferred.
  • Industry experience in the hospitality, food and beverage or event industry – preferred.
  • Equipment and technology: experience with kitchen equipment – preferred.
  • Communication skills: a positive communication style, and a commitment to helping create a supportive, inclusive work culture.
  • Personal aptitude: curiosity, great listening skills and openness to feedback. Ability to work well with others and to jump in to help when needed. 
  • Work week availability: able to work on average three shifts a week, mid-afternoon to 6:30 pm.
  • Physical requirements: The physical strength to safely lift and carry heavy items (up to 25 kg); work on your feet for hours at a time; perform frequent physical movements in a kitchen throughout the day and work indoors and outdoors, rain or shine. 
  • Health & safety: a willingness to follow Sea Cider’s Communicable Disease & COVID protocols, which includes up to date COVID vaccination.
  • Continuous improvement: A desire to work for a business that is growing and seeking to continually improve.
