One the Farm: Rumrunner Whips!

Our nursery is just loving this summer weather!

And, the little sprinkling of rain we’re having certainly doesn’t hurt. Our acting cidermaker and orchard manager, Stephen, is often found out here tending to his ‘babies’ and making sure they are growing up right. These little trees are actually called ‘whips’ – a newly grafted tree to a rootstock. In a few years these ones will produce the two most important varietals for our most popular cider. Stephen has actually grafted Winesaps & Winter Banana scion wood onto one root stock!

We’ll call them Rumrunner (Prohibition) trees!

Cool, eh!?
