IYKYK! Sea Cider (@seaciderhouse) ciders are a favorite of our customers, and none are more popular than Prohibition (aka Rum Runner depending on what side of the border you’re on). But don’t just take it from us! We sent six bottles of Prohibition to a new customer today. When asked how they found our cider shop, they replied:
.
”We were just on a cruise and went cider tasting in Victoria, BC. We stopped at Sea Cider and LOVED the Rumrunner… thought it would be a cool addition to our Holiday meals.” … we agree!

Visit @pressthenpress to get your favorite @seaciderhouse ciders shipped to (almost) anywhere in the US! 🥂🍎🍾

Meet the Calville Blanc d'Hiver🍏 She isn Meet the Calville Blanc d'Hiver🍏

She isn't much to look at but this classic dessert apple has a special place in our hearts as it was the heart of our very first cider ever produced. Either French or German origin it was first documented in 1598.
This large, flattish, pale green apple develops a red blush on the sun exposed side. Lumpy, often misshapen with prominent ribs that extend the fruit ending in a 5 pointed crown at the base. What makes it the star of the show is that it has one of the highest vitamin C contents, roughly three times more than other apple varietals!

What makes an HEIRLOOM APPLE? 🍎🍎 Heir What makes an HEIRLOOM APPLE? 🍎🍎

Heirloom apples are older apple varieties passed down from multiple generations. Unlike grocery store apples, heirloom apples offer a complexity of flavor and come in diverse textures, sizes and shapes.

Cider can be made with grocery store apples but it's often lacking in flavour and acidity leaving a quite 'thin' or watery tasting. Apples that have acid that'll hurt your teeth and tannin that will instantly dry every inch of your mouth out make for the best cider you could ask for.

Sea Cider’s Heirloom Series of ciders pays tribute to apples that have stood the test of time and produced some of the world’s finest cider. The ciders in this series are handcrafted on our farm, and have been developed to highlight the robust varietals deeply rooted in tradition.

Pronounced 'Carmine', this apple hails from the Netherlands and is one of the newer varietals in our orchard with a ripe young birth year of 1971.

Orange-red flushing on a green background and russetting more often than not. This apple measures highest in both sugars and acids, so much so that freshly off the tree its intensity can be overwhelming to the palate. Honeyed and nutty flavours are prominent in this rich and juicy stunner.

Discovered in 1875 and is said to be seeds from a Russian Alexander apple that were brought with a man from Quebec to his new home in Wisconsin on the Wolf River.

This sweet apple is lightly tart, highly aromatic and intensely juicy. The second largest apple in our orchard and is a bakers dream as you only need one or two to bake a pie with them.
A very unique apple as it's one of the only known apples to produce apples of its likeness from seeds without the need for grafting.

Meet the Chisel Jersey 🍎 A smallish bitt Meet the Chisel Jersey 🍎

A smallish bittersweet varietal that is high in big harsh tannins, high in sugars and very low in malic acid, this is a great blending apple to amp up the body in traditional ciders. Round with a slight conic base, bright green skin with a pink blush and red striping.

Originating in Somerset, England, sometime in the 19th century. It's one of the most famous apples of this region and fast became a favourite in North America for the trees cold hardy growing abilities.

We're busy harvesting these gems this week along with several other varietals as our harvest continues in full swing.

This seasonal cider combines cranberries, or sassamanash as the Algonquians called them, with the best British Columbia grown apples and hibiscus flowers. The result: a beautiful light rose coloured cider with a bright, balanced acidity that is drenched in autumn sweetness.

This autumn sipper pairs perfectly with turkey, ham, mashed root veggies and other seasonal goodness. An excellent addition to your Thanksgiving dinner!

#Repost @tourismvictoriabc Nothing brings in Harvest Season quite like visiting an apple orchard. The trees are full of plump apples pulling their branches to the earth, while the bins of already harvested apples smell like autumn. 🍎🍂

Our friends at Sea Cider work tremendously hard this time of the year harvesting their bounty, using a traditional fermentation process to craft their organic ciders. Visit them from 11 - 6pm to sample their craft. 🍁
