Chef (Full-Time/ Year-Round)

- Compensation: $25/hr + tips
- Vacation: 4% vacation paid out each pay period, plus option of up to 3 weeks unpaid time off
- Work week schedule: Monday through Friday, 9:30am to 5:30pm (Quiet Season) or 11:30am to 7:30pm (Summer)
The Job
Our Chef plays the lead role on our small but mighty Culinary team! As the only full-time, year round person on our Culinary Team, our Chef does a bit of everything, from developing new menu items to deep cleaning the coolers. Responsibilities include:
- Collaborating with the Hospitality Manager to plan our food menu, testing new ideas, and working on culinary projects
- Managing inventory and creating daily and weekly work plans
- Assisting the Hospitality Manager with HR, from recruiting to scheduling and managing staff costs
- Prepping ingredients, preparing and plating orders
- Presenting food orders to guests, explaining food, and answering questions
- Processing payments for food orders at the Deli
- Bussing and dishwashing
- Preparing “mingle buffets” for Sea Cider catering events such as weddings and mixers
- Ensuring kitchen, deli, and food storage areas are kept clean and organized
- Completing our culinary Opening and Closing Checklists
The work week is Monday to Friday. Much of the year, shifts are 9:30am to 5:30pm, but move to 11:30am to 7:30pm in the High Season. The budgeted salary is $25/hour + 4% vacation + tips.. Your performance will be assessed based on customer reviews, team culture, and productivity. Food safety and customer care are our top priorities.

About You
You are a professional chef looking for an opportunity to play a big role on a small team, and looking to be part of a larger team that is inclusive and collaborative. In addition you have:
- Education: Food Safe, Serving It Right and first aid certification required. Post secondary culinary degree or diploma required.
- Vocational experience: At least two years working in a supervisory position cooking in a commercial kitchen, restaurant, or deli.
- HR management: Experience recruiting, training, scheduling, supervising and reviewing team member performance. A gift for creating a positive team culture while maintaining food standards and team focus.
- Communication skills: A proven track record in problem solving, resolving customer complaints successfully, and avoiding complaints in the first place!
- Technology: Proficient using common industry software.
- Personal aptitude: a high degree of professionalism, demonstrated success in collaboration, and highly open to feedback. Also, an interest in learning about cider!
- Work week available: Able to work full time hours year round. Willing to work occasional evenings and weekends to meet the needs of the business per Sea Cider’s lieu time policy.
- Physical requirements: Able to lift up to 25 kg several times daily (e.g. dishracks, cases of dry goods, etc) and to work standing up for hours at a time.
