Focus of Accountability

Selling cider at local artisan markets, managing Sea Cider’s participation in these markets and supervising our team of Market Associates. Performance is measured against revenue per market, number of markets attended and employee feedback on supervision and support.

Responsibilities

Our Markets Coordinator is responsible for arranging Sea Cider’s participation in regional markets (farmers markets, holiday markets, etc) and leading our team of Market Associates. Coordination duties include applying for markets, helping with recruiting, training, scheduling and supervising Market Associates, and troubleshooting any issues that arise. Our Markets Coordinator is also responsible for selling cider at weekly markets, on average two per week, especially through the summer and holiday seasons. Working at markets involves picking up market supplies, setting up and taking down the market stall, serving samples, explaining our ciders to market goers, processing payments, taking photos and sharing posts about markets on social media, keeping track of bottles poured and cash received, and acting as a Sea Cider brand ambassador.

  • Plan and coordinate farmers markets; ie apply for markets, train Market Associates, coordinate the market schedule and assign Market Associates to market shifts, supervise them and help them troubleshoot issues that arise
  • Build market folders that are organized, contain all pertinent information for each market, keep folders up to date and in good working order
  • Pick up products for sale/sampling plus the “Tastings Kit” (cider, signage, marketing collateral, booth decor, SIR certificate, cash box with float, opener, etc) and other equipment (e.g. 10 x 10 market tent, folding table, etc)
  • Set up and take down Tasting Station, including lifting and transferring cases of cider, erecting the market tent, setting out signage and marketing material, logging in to Sea Cider’s point of sale system, etc.
  • Serve samples, acting as a Brand Ambassador, answering the public’s questions about Sea Cider
  • Sell products; processing payments, reconciling the cash float and making bank deposits
  • Keep accurate records, including sales, sampling and inventory data 
  • Communicate with the Regional Sales Manager on event logistics, special promotions, etc. and any issues that arise 
  • Manage inventory and supplies
  • Train, schedule and supervise Market & Tastings Associates; assist with recruitment
  • Weekly reporting to Regional Sales Manager
  • Apply to participate in markets, ensuring Sea Cider has a licence in place for each market being attended.
  • Coordinate Farmers Market Playbook; a step by step guide with Regional Sales Manager
  • Follow all current Public Health Orders

Training 

Training will be provided at Sea Cider Farm & Ciderhouse and in the lower mainland. There will be approximately 24 hours of initial training for this role.

A sample training schedule is as follows:

  • Day one: Travel to Sea Cider to learn about Sea Cider products and the company; participate in a two hour tasting and guided tour of the farm; meet fellow Sea Cider staff; review important documents and protocols. Sales Manager will also set up email account, access to key systems, review expense reports, timesheets and calendars, and run through how to set up a market stall. Total time: approx 6 hours at the farm.
  • Day two: Shadow one of Sea Cider’s current Market Associates while they work at a farmers market in the Lower Mainland. Meet at storage locker, help load supplies, meet again at market, set up booth and learn protocols for sampling, sales, etc. then pack up, return supplies to storage locker, complete Market Cash Out Report and transfer cash. Total time: 8 hours.
  • Day three: Second day of shadowing a Market Associate at a Lower Mainland market. Total time: 8 hours.
